Grave Site Markers
As was mention on the 'About the
69th" page, we raise money to lay grave markers on PA 69th veterans who did not
have a marker placed originally. To date, we have laid over 50 markers, mostly
at Old Cathedral Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA. Throughout the year as graves are
discovered, arrangements are made to have markers laid down. Around Veterans day
we visit those graves to dedicate them.

Civil War Preservation Trust
In addition, we have donated money to the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT). CWPT research which battlefields are under private ownership and coming available for sale. The CWPT will attempt to buy the land and then turn it over to a state or federal park agency to maintain. The PA 69th has been honored with an award at the CWPT 2008 annual conference for its donation to battlefield preservation. Please click here to see the write up. We are listed under the Reenactment Unit of the Year Award toward the bottom of the page. Here is a picture of the award.
For more about the CWPT, please visit their web site.
Glendale Battlerfield Marker (part of The Seven Days Battles)
Recently, battlefield ground was acquired where the battle of Glendale took place. The PA 69th has placed a marker on the Glendale battlefield and it is the first marker placed on the grounds. It will mark the location where the PA 69th was located during the battle and what we accomplished there. As a unit, we are very proud of the monument being placed at the Glendale battlefield. Video from dedication.
Music
We fund the preservation endeavors mainly by the sale of CDs and members who do performances at Irish Pubs. No member makes money off the CD or performances. The money goes directly into the preservation fund. Please click Music to find more information about the CDs.
On the International Seen
James McPeake was a soldier of the 69th who went back to Ireland and was laid to rest in S. Derry. The PA 69th made arrangements to have flags and a GAR marker placed on his grave. Below is a picture of the grave.
